Beyond The Summit: What If There's More?

Beyond The Summit: What If There's More?

October 06, 2025

There was once a man named Thomas who spent his whole life climbing a mountain. He didn’t always call it that—but that’s what it was.

Early in life, he called it “making a living.” Later, it became “providing for the family.” Eventually, it was “saving for retirement.” Every step, every decision, every sacrifice he made was in service of reaching the top. The summit.

And so he climbed. He sacrificed time. Pushed through exhaustion. Ignored distractions. Turned down tempting detours. With unwavering focus, Thomas pursued his goal. He had his map, his compass, and a clear destination in mind: retirement.

And then, one day… he arrived. He reached the point he had worked toward for decades. The summit he had imagined. The goal that had shaped his plans, his energy, and his discipline.

But something unexpected happened. As he paused to catch his breath and take in the view, the clouds around him began to lift—and what he saw took him by surprise. Another peak. Higher. More beautiful. More meaningful.

It hadn’t been visible from below. But now, from this new vantage point, it stood clearly in the distance. And with it came a realization: this moment—this milestone—wasn’t the end of the journey. It was a turning point that changed everything.

Thomas felt something stir within him—not disappointment, but possibility. Not regret, but readiness. He began to see retirement not as the final chapter, but as the start of something even greater. He looked at his hands—still strong. He looked at his heart—now wiser. He looked at his pack—filled with tools he had picked up along the way: resources, skills, relationships, faith.

He smiled. He had climbed far. But now, he saw there was still more ahead—more to give, more to become, more to explore. And this time, he wouldn’t climb for survival or status. This time, he would climb for significance. Not because he had to, but because he still could. And because beyond the summit… the view was even better.

The Message

Like Thomas, many of our clients are discovering that retirement isn’t the final destination—it’s a false summit. And that’s not bad news. It may not be what they expected, but it’s actually good news.  They’re finding that they desire more than leisure as they consider the next 20–30 years of their lives. They’re beginning to see that this next season may be their most fruitful yet—because now they have something they never had in their earlier climbs: Wisdom.

They also have:

  • Resources they didn’t once possess
  • Time they once wished for
  • People they care about, ready to climb with them

If you’re feeling that same desire to go further, you’re not alone.

So the question becomes: What lies beyond the summit you’ve been working toward? Will you pitch your tent at what may be a false summit—or will you strap your pack back on and begin the climb toward a higher calling?

You’ve never been here before—but we have.
